Title:  Life and Times of our Ancestors—Historic Disasters, Epidemics, Politics and other Calamities!

Synopsis of Program: Sometimes we focus in on specific people and isolated record finds and fail to see the larger picture -- including the social and political climate in which our ancestors lived. Many factors affected the lives of our ancestors including their race or ethnicity, gender, religion, language(s) spoken, climate and weather conditions, occupation, education and medical care available and more. What was going on in the U.S. economy, business and industry, military and foreign relations greatly affected daily life

Our ancestors were subject to natural and man-made disasters including: fires, storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts, floods, and pestilence. They faced the continued threat of disease, epidemic, infection and death without much medical help. We often wonder about: their migratory path, when and why they move here or there, how couples met, job changes, changes in religion. Often these questions could be answered by a look at the many factors at work in the lives of ordinary people like our ancestors.
