Genealogy Face2Face - Presented by Clayton Library Friends
This is a weekly roundtable discussion for Clayton Library Friends members and the general public related to genealogy research.
Topic: "The Texas and Local History Collection (TLHC) of the Houston Metropolitan Research Center (HMRC)" with Joanna “Jo” Collier
Handout: TLHC at HMRC (MS Doc)
The TLHC consists of books, periodicals, maps, and vertical files that can be used in the reading room area of the archives. Like Clayton the books do not check out. Much of these materials are not duplicated in the Clayton Library collection and can help you contextualize the events that took place in the lives of your Texian ancestors.
Jo Collier is a native Texan who received a BA in Liberal Arts from Austin College, in Sherman. She is in her 24th year of service with the Houston Public Library, which started at Clayton. Since 2008 she has been with the HMRC and moved into the position of Collection Development Librarian in 2017. She served on the advisory committee of the Handbook of Houston, has curated multiple exhibits, including Underground in H-town, about Houston’s alternative press, for the Printing Museum. In addition she is one of the founding members of Houston ARCH (Area Rainbow Collective History), a consortium of Houston-area universities, libraries, museums, and archives that promotes the preservation and dissemination of LGBTQ plus history in the Houston area.
