HPL Event: Researching Your Asian American Genealogy
Asian Americans have been an important part of the United States for over 175 years yet have faced many obstacles to their immigration and naturalization. The silver linings that result from these challenges are a wealth of documents in government archives for those who immigrated through the mid-20th century. Recent immigrants have fewer documents, but more opportunities to speak with family members to learn about their history. This session will present an introduction to the many types of information available to researchers of Asian descent.
Join the Family History Research Center at the Clayton Library Campus as we welcome guest Speaker Grant Din.
Grant holds a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University, an M.A. in public policy analysis from Claremont Graduate University, a B.A. in sociology with emphasis on urban studies from Yale University, and has traveled throughout the U.S., China, and Japan for his research. He has close to forty years of experience in the Bay Area non-profit sector and lives with his family in Oakland, CA.
