HPL Event: LGBTQ+ Genealogy and Family Trees
We often think of genealogy as tracing the roots of family trees—names, dates, places, and relationships. But what happens when those histories are incomplete, hidden, or forgotten? Whether you’re a genealogist, historian, LGBTQ+ ally, or just curious—this talk will open your eyes to the powerful stories hidden in plain sight.
Professional genealogist Stewart Blandon Traiman, MD explores how genealogy can uncover hidden or forgotten LGBTQ ancestors through records like photographs, censuses, newspapers, and archives. Stewart shares powerful historical stories that blend fact and emotion, highlighting the lives of LGBTQ individuals across generations. The talk also addresses modern challenges faced by LGBTQ and adoptive families in using genealogical software, and offers suggestions for more inclusive tools.
