Clayton Library is new Affiliate of LDS Library
Clayton Library is now a partner of the Family History Library (FHL) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in Salt Lake City. Clayton Library users now have the opportunity to order microfilm and other materials directly from the Family History Library and view them on-site here at Clayton Library. Those who have visited local FHL Centers in Houston or elsewhere know that these centers are operated by volunteers only, and so their hours of operation are limited. By being here at Clayton the FHL will be open whenever Clayton Library is open. Film/fiche can now be ordered and viewed here at Clayton. Many users of Clayton Library have film on permanent loan at their local FHL and have asked if it can be transferred. Unfortunately, this is not possible.
Since the Clayton House is again open to the public, the FHL is located there in the room on the right side of the entrance. Just as we did for years when the Family Histories were located there, (Family Histories are to remain on the second floor in the main building as they are now) volunteers are needed to staff the Clayton House Welcome Desk to assist with the day-to-day patron use of the loaned microforms. Any questions about this program or anyone wishing to indicate interest in participating, please contact Steven Bychowski, Clayton Library Volunteer Coordinator at 832-393-2600 or Steven.Bychowski@HoustonTX.gov.
